Turkmenistan to host first Caspian Economic Forum

ECO CCI with cooperation The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and Turkmenistan Embasst in Ankara and Consulate General of Istanbul, organized an informative event namely, “ Caspian Economic Forum Briefing”on 30 April 2019 in Istanbul, TOBB Plaza.

ECO is a geopolitical and ge-economical oriented intergovernmental institution compromising of Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic. Being at the epicenter of the world’s vibrant and dynamic regions, which include South Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Middle East and Europe, ECO as an institution commands enormous importance in ushering in regionalism for the better of the socio – economic conditions, enhancement of the political power and coordination of foreign economic relations of its member states. ECO is also initiating outreach for extra regional integration and connectivity by forging cooperation and collaboration with other regional and global international institutions.

Forum aims to accelerate economic, trade and investment cooperation in Caspian Sea and nearby regions

The first Caspian Economic Forum in Turkmenistan will be held on the anniversary of an agreement on the legal status of the Caspian Sea on Aug. 12, 2019 in the country's national tourist zone of Awaza.

According to a statement made by Embassy of Turkmenistan for Ankara, Turkmenistan President H.E Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed Aug. 12, the date when the littoral countries reached an agreement on the legal status of the Caspian Sea in 2018, as the date of the forum.

The forum envisions sessions on commercial and economic relations, investments, energy and tourism and the development of large-scale projects. Its agenda will cover these issues in the hope of further forming the basis for prospective cooperation among participating states, representatives of the banking and business sectors and scientists from Caspian countries.

"The upcoming event aims at providing strong and prudent incentives to economic, trade and investment cooperation on the Caspian Sea and nearby regions,”

"It also aims to transform the Caspian region into one of the largest international transport and transit hubs through the creation of a new geo-economic area in Eurasia that is capable of catering to global, modern demands,.

Along with the main events, an international conference titled Caspian Exhibition of Innovative Technologies will be held with the participation of government representatives, companies and entrepreneurs. TOBB hosted more than 50 companies during the event on 30 April 2019 at TOBB Plaza.
